On October 29th, Aamir Khan was at a screening of Taare Zameen Par at the International Dyslexia Association annual meeting, which was held in Seattle. The film was shown to an audience of 200 and after Aamir took part in a question and answer session. He wrote about the experience on his blog and here are some highlights from the post titled “Sleepless in Seattle”.

Aamir, of course being the perfectionist he is, pointed out that the film was not shown in its best light in a conference room with bad acoustics and only a DVD projection. He wrote that he was very nervous once the lights went down, “As the lights dimmed I was really nervous. Here were people who know all about Dyslexia and work in the field of learning disabilities. Also, whenever I watch my work around 6 months after it has released I usually hate it, and this time was no different. As the film played out I kept squirming, wishing I could disappear into my seat.”

“And then finally the film got over and the lights came on.. to an ABSOLUTELY THUNDEROUS STANDING OVATION!!!”

Aamir was very moved by the reaction of the audience to the film, “I was so overwhelmed. Then I came forward for the Q&A and saw the tears streaming down the cheeks of the audience. I can’t tell you how happy I was to see so many people cry! Needless to say I was part of them, I cry at the drop of a hat. And here were people from all over the world who had dedicated their lives to helping children with learning difficulties. I was so glad that IDA had chosen to screen TZP at their annual conference, and that I was able to make it to Seattle. And I felt so blessed to be part of a film that touches people so deeply.”

He went on to say that it was amazing to see how the film has been received all over the world, “Everyone just loved the film and it had struck a really deep chord. In fact the reaction was exactly as it had been with audiences back home in India. It really amazes me how people from all across the world react to some films in pretty much the same way, which reaffirms the fact of how similar we all are no matter which part of the globe we come from.”

Darsheel’s performance once again was the talk of the film and the audience also praised the screenplay and music. The audience wanted to know when the film would be in theaters in the US and Aamir explained it had already been released. The members of the audience then said that the film should be re-released in the US market. They also requested that perhaps the film could be dubbed in English, “They felt, and rightly so, that they wanted their children to see the film and were afraid that the smaller kids will not be able to read the subtitles. So I’m going to look into that. At the very least the DVD release here can incorporate a dubbed version as well.”

Aamir closed the blog writing, “Well, you can imagine that I didn’t get much sleep that night. So on the night of the 29th there was at least one person who was sleepless in Seattle, and this time it wasn’t Tom Hanks.”

For this golden-touch man, it was first wide appreciation from India and now the world. We are indeed talking about Aamir 'The Perfectionist' Khan and his masterwork, Taare Zameen Par. In his blog, , he speaks about his 'date' on October 29, when he held a special screening of TZP in Seattle for the IDA (International Dyslexia Association). This was one mega event which was attended by more than 200 members who knew about Dyslexia and worked in the field of learning disabilities. And through this event, Aamir wanted to gauge the responses of the cinegoers from the foreign shores. The 'screening' ('DVD projection', to be precise) was in a conference room and not in a cinema hall. Much to the surprise of Aamir, the film got itself an absolutely thunderous standing ovation, no sooner the lights were switched on! Not just that, after the screening there were many tear-filled eyes in the audiences. All this simply made Aamir glad that IDA had chosen to screen TZP at their annual conference. The ironical moment of the evening was the eagerness of the audience to know when the film would release in the US. And when they were told that the film has already seen a US release, they all insisted that the film be re-released in theatres, this time for the mainstream American audiences. One of the important points that came out of the Q&A session was the request from the audience to dub the film in English when re-released in US, as they wanted their children to see the film, but were afraid that the smaller kids will not be able to read the subtitles. Aamir has taken keen interest into this matter with an assurance that 'at the very least, the DVD release in US can incorporate an English dubbed version'. Aamir ends his blog saying that he didn't get much sleep that night (October 29), and that this time, it was him and not Tom Hanks, who was sleepless in Seattle! Well Aamir, with TZP being a front-runner at the Oscars, your fans (including us) will be totally sleepless till the results are announced!

This is why this movie produced in the new age Bollywood is considered as an evergreen work with a special status in the history of Indian cinema.

Long after its release and rise to be now considered as one of the most insightful, impressive, original and high impact movies of Bollywood, the immortal magic of 'Taare Zameen Par' and the great message it puts forth still melts into the minds of every new viewer who gets the chance to watch it.

The touching tale of the dyslexic little protagonist and his transformation with the help of his teacher this time also managed to make the watchers emotional with tears running down the cheeks after the movie had got over.

'Taare Zameen Par' was screened in Seattle, U.S.A, on October 29 for the participants of the annual conference of the International Dyslexia Association.

The producer/director and actor of the movie Aamir Khan was also present for the special show which was held in a conference hall using a DVD Projector.

Aamir  experienced acute apprehensions as unlike the normal viewers, this time the movie was being shown to a crowd which consisted of many experts of dyslexia.

All of the perfectionist performer's doubts and worries evaporated once the movie was over.

The whole crowd stood up and gave the film a standing ovation.

Aamir tells that the experience amazed him and considered as the perfect evidence to show how some films irrespective of the language in which they are made always connect well to the audience world over.
