Aamir Khan enjoys first live football game!
The Hero Indian Super League (ISL) has always given the fans in the stadium a dash of glamour to go along with the sumptuous football that they experience when they watch their favourite teams in action. And when the matches are in Mumbai, or Navi Mumbai to be precise, they can be sure to witness more than they’ve paid for, as the stars haul up to lend support to the Indian footballing revolution that is the ISL.
In the VIP galleries this evening to witness hosts Mumbai City FC take on FC Goa was Mr Perfectionist himself, Aamir Khan. In an exclusive conversation with indiansuperleague.com, the Bollywood star narrated his experience of watching football being played live for the first time in his life.
“It was my first experience watching football live. I normally watch it on television. I’ve watched a lot of cricket in a stadium, but this is the first time I was in a stadium watching a football game live, and it was a wonderful experience. It was very fast, very exciting, and I had a lovely evening,” beamed Khan.
The multi-faceted film personality also spoke appreciatively of the crowd, who expressed their wholehearted support for the local side, saying, “I think the Mumbai audience is a terrific audience, a very wonderful crowd, full of energy and full of support for the home team’ It’s a really great crowd.”
The ISL has been receiving very positive reviews all across the globe, and as a fan of the game, Khan is delighted with the quality of football that India is witnessing: “It’s great to see that, because I think that this is what India needed, this is what Indian football needed. And the league will throw up a lot of young Indian talent which can, in the future, contribute to a strong national team which can hopefully qualify for the World Cup.”
Khan, who has once played in a charity match, dismissed a playful question about him turning out for Mumbai City: “I doubt it! He (Ranbir Kapoor) might sign me up as a cheerleader or something, but other than that, I’m not of any use to him on the field!”
