Actor Aamir Khan and his wife, filmmaker Kiran Rao have big hopes for the recently concluded Mumbai film festival's future. The 16th edition of the film festival was organised by Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI). The actor said, "MAMI should become so popular that filmmakers from around the world would want to be a part of it." He also said, "The film industry should once again come forward to support the festival. Start the work earlier this time." Adding to that Kiran said, "Make a roadmap. We have to plan its future and look at it 5-10 years in advance. We can't expect the filmmakers to always shell out the money, so we need a comprehensive vision."

MAMI Ends On A High Note
The 16th Mumbai Film Festival came to a close on October 21 at Chandan Cinema in Mumbai. Despite the trials and tribulations the festival went through this year, the occasion witnessed a healthy turnout from filmmakers and B-town celebs alike. The closing ceremony was graced by Guest of Honour Aamir Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Vaani Kapoor, Esha Gupta, Parineeti Chopra and Anushka Sharma, who were joined by stalwarts of industry, such as Ajay Bijli, Chairman PVR; Gayatri Yadav, CMO, Star India; among others and members of the Jury.
A teary eyed festival director Srinivasan Narayan in his opening address said, “Thank you all for making it possible, what appeared mission impossible 45 days ago. For us at MAMI, the Almighty appeared in several forms – Anand Mahindra, Manish Mundra, Rohit Khattar, Neeraj Bajaj, Kiran Rao, Vinod Chopra, Anupama Chopra… the list is long.” He also thanked Tina Ambani and Reliance Entertainment who helped sustain the festival for the last five years.
After his address, the festival honoured the best talent from across the world in the three competitive categories – International Competition, India Gold 2014 and Dimensions Mumbai, with trophies designed by jewellery designer Varuna D Jani.
The winners list:
International Competition
The Golden Gateway of India for the Best Film in the International Competition section was bagged by the Indian film Court directed by Chaitanya Tamhane and produced by Vivek Gomber.
The Jury Grand Prize was awarded The Silver Gateway of India trophy and was given to the Mexican film, Gueros, directed by Alonso Ruizpalacios and produced by Ramiro Ruiz Ruiz-Funes. The Jury also named Chaitanya Tamhane Best Director for the film Court and the film also earned a Special Jury Mention for the Ensemble Cast.
Martin Loizillon’s role in the movie Fever won him the Best Actor award. The Silver Gateway of India Trophy for Best Actress was awarded to Liron Ben-Shlush for her role in Next To Her. The final award in the International Competition category, Jury Award, the Silver Gateway of India, was presented for the Best Work Camera won Anthony ‘Tat’ Radcliffe a, for excellence in cinematography in the British historical action film 71.
India Gold 2014
Chauranga directed by Bikas Ranjan Mishra was judged the Best Film and won the Golden Gateway of India in the category.
Killa directed by Avinash Arun won the Second Best Film award Silver Gateway of India.
The ensemble cast of Killa received the Special Jury Award
Dimensions Mumbai
Mumbai 70 directed by Disha Rindani won the Silver Gateway of India trophy for Best Film
Unfit directed by Shristi Jain won Second Best Film
Selfie directed by Ramachandra Gaonkar was given Special Mentions by the Jury.
The Young Critics Jury for the Best Film was awarded the Silver Gateway of India for the Best Film to the Iranian film Ba Digaran directed by Nasser Zamiri.
The Best Mumbai Young Critic went to AkshayPawar from DJ Sanghvi College for his innate passion and deep understanding of the film medium
