Aamir Khan's P.K. misses festive release
Call it a coincidence, but Aamir Khan’s last three hits — 3 Idiots (Christmas 2009), Ghajini (Christmas 2008) and Taare Zameen Par (Christmas 2007) — have all been festival releases. Even this year’s Christmas slot has been taken over by his next release, Dhoom:3.
But it looks like Aamir has been left with no festive slot in 2014 — considering all the special dates are blocked by other big stars — and Rajkumar Hirani’s P.K. releases on June 6. Incidentally, Sajid Khan’s Humshakals was to release on that date, but was shifted to June 20, as it was clashing with Aamir's film.
"Clearly, the makers of Sajid’s film don’t want a clash with a star like Aamir, who has an impeccable track record at the box office,” says an industry insider, adding, “Although Sajid 's film also features a number of stars, including Saif (Ali Khan), it’s not advisable to clash with Aamir's film."
Coming to festive slots next year, while Salman has booked Republic Day and Eid for his respective films — Jai Ho and Kick, Christmas and Diwali have been blocked by Shah Rukh Khan and Ranbir Kapoor respectively.
"P.K. is expected to be ready only around March next year. And the next major festive period would be Eid, which has already been taken over by Salman,” adds the insider. The subsequent festive date — Independence Day is booked by Akshay Kumar (for Gabbar), Ajay Devgn (with Singham 2) and Saif Ali Khan (Kabir Khan’s next).
Meanwhile, Humshakals that has been shifted to June 20 will, as per the current release dates, clash with Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Roy and Mohit Suri’s The Villain starring Sidharth Malhotra. “Sajid and his team, nor anyone else for that matter, will complain about clashing with Aamir. So it was more or less on expected lines,” adds the insider.
