WHEN TB TURNS DEADLY
The segment opens with Dr Shekhar Khandare whose sister Dr Samidha Khandare was headed for a promising career in medicine when she tested positive for TB of the eyes and brain. She died within 6 months of contracting the infection as the initial diagnosis was inaccurate. Leading chest physician Dr Zarir Udwadia explains why TB has emerged as a killer disease and what explains the emergence of its virulent strains. Both the stigma and trauma that TB patients undergo is brought home in the account of bank employee Prathamesh Balgi, who suffered from TB for four years. He talks about the enormous physical and mental strain patients undergo during treatment.
WHAT'S GOING WRONG
Don't reject, instead accept and support a person with TB, urges Dr Sheilja Singh, in this segment that focuses on how TB can be tackled better. The efficacy of the government's RNTCP, Revised National TB Control Programme, in coping with deadlier strains, is examined by Dr Lalit Kumar Anande, the Chief Medical Officer of the country’s largest TB hospital. How the RNTCP's approach often goes wrong is highlighted by Sadanand Lanjewar whose son was not treated for multidrug-resistant TB (MDR TB) on time. Additional Deputy Director General of the Central TB Programme, Dr Kuldeep Singh Sachdeva, answers questions regarding the government program. Soumya Swaminathan, the Director of the National Institute for Research on Tuberculosis, says the rising numbers are a blot on India's growth story. The segment ends with a call to action asking viewers to give a missed call on 1800-833-4004 if they agree that TB should be declared a national health emergency.
THE MAGICAL VACCINE
In the third segment, Dr Anurag Bhargava makes the point that adequate nutrition is key to fighting TB. The segment also looks at how New York handled its TB crisis in the ’90s. Rebecca Stevens who was a part of the programme joins the show via 3G link from to talk about her experience. Aamir Khan then highlights the efforts of Dr Shelly Batra and Sandeep Ahuja, from Operation ASHA, India’s largest TB control organization in the number of patients, that is ensuring complete treatment with community Directly Observed Treatment, Short-course (DOTS) providers.
SURVIVOR & FIGHTER
In this segment, Deepti Chavan shares her inspiring story of fighting multidrug-resistant TB (MDR TB). Just 16 when she was diagnosed, doctors told her father Vijay Chavan she had no hopes of survival. But her spirit and will to live triumphed and today she speaks openly about her experiences to inspire others fighting the illness.
BEYOND CALL OF DUTY
Actor Salman Khan, a large supporter of the Group of TB Hospitals, Sewri, and of TB prevention in general, shares his personal story. His grandmother battled TB for many years and couldn’t even hug his father because of her disease. The episode ends with Mr Khan honouring selfless community Directly Observed Treatment, Short-course (DOTS) providers across the country who have gone that extra mile for patients under their care.

DOTS providers under the NGO Operation Asha are the selfless warriors who have taken it upon themselves to ensure medicines reach even the remotest corners of the country for people with TB
