We Indian usually refer a transgender as a ‘eunuch’ or a ‘chakka’. But we fail to understand what it actually means to be one. Aamir in today’s episode of Satyamev Jayate tried to focus on that very aspect. The emotional dilemma an individual belonging to this community goes through. In their growing age, these kids belonging to this particular community find it difficult to get along with the society. They generally have low self esteem and the fear of not being accepted by the society for being different. Society is not the only aspect they have to deal with; they also have to combat with their self identity crisis. Acceptance from family and the society serves as the only support to help them deal with this situation. Being a homosexual is not a mental disorder, it is a natural feeling which cannot be changed. It is totally natural feeling for a male to have romantic inclination for a male and vice a versa. As you cannot expect a heterosexual to be a homosexual, you cannot force homosexual to become a heterosexual.

In today’s episode, Aamir introduced few individuals from the LGBT community. Firstly it was Gazal Dhaliwal, who was born as a male but always felt like a woman. The support and love she received from her parents and friends has immensely helped her to take the biggest decision of her life, a sex change operation. Deepak talked about his struggle to understand and accept his natural inclination to males as a growing teen and how his family accepted him for being gay. Divya happily married to her best friend, parted ways, when she started fanaticising women as her partner. The dilemma in accepting her homosexual side and overcoming the fear of being rejected is commendable. Simran Shaikh walked out of her house at the age of sixteen when her family couldn’t cope up with her strange feminine mannerisms despite being a male. She sets an example for everyone with determination to educate herself by begging, prostitution and dancing at a bar. Today, she is a part of a national level activist working for a NGO and spread social awareness on HIV and AIDS.

These individuals are real life examples from our society. The sexual inclination of an individual is the most discriminated aspect in India. Despite belonging to a well educated family, we fail to accept the LGBT community as humans.

The section 377 of IPC criminalises any kind of unnatural sexual activities and homosexuality is termed a crime in India under this section. If you analyse this section directly contradicts the right to express, right to live and right to freedom of homosexuals in India.
