RISING FROM THE ASHES
Newspapers these days are usually full of reports about robberies, murders and rapes. Often those committing such crimes are young people. Akhilesh Paul, the first guest in this segment, has a similar story. Paul, who grew up in a slum, took to a life of crime very early in life. A chance encounter with Professor Vijay Barse, founder of Slum Soccer, changed the course of his life. Also in this segment are sisters Geeta and Babita Kumari Phogat. Born in rural Haryana, they battled gender prejudice, even within their homes. Today they are medal winning champions, thanks to the support of their father Mahabir Singh Phogat who never to let his daughters feel they were less equal or stronger than boys.
SMALL WONDER
Looking at our medals tally in international events down the years, one would think India has no talent. The reality is that there is plenty of sporting talent especially in rural areas. But few get noticed and mostly wither away because they receive little attention, encouragement and training. Shubham Jaglan, the boy wonder from a village in Haryana, is a shining example of what one can achieve with the right attention at the right time. This 9-year-old champion golfer's talent was spotted early on by Amit Luthra, India’s first ever number one golfer, who took him under his wing.
GAME CHANGERS
This segment opens with a group of young boys and girls from the NGO Magic Bus India Foundation. Gulafsha Khan, Parvati Pujari, Ritu Pawa and Vijay Gupta are children from underprivileged backgrounds whose lives have been transformed thanks to Magic Bus' innovative approach of using sports and games to teach children essential lessons of life. These children were not exposed to regular schooling and some of them grew up on the streets, where they were at risk. They share their vulnerabilities, the battles they fought at home to be a part of Magic Bus, and the change they have witnessed in their lives and those around them. Aamir Khan is also joined by Matthew Spacie, founder of Magic Bus, whose personal journey is equally inspiring.
KICK IN REFORMS
This segment takes an in-depth look into where India is going wrong in its approach towards sports. Sports activist Rahul Mehra says corruption and mismanagement is the main reason why India fairs poorly in sporting events and that the way to tackle this is to ensure that the right people are appointed to top positions in the various sports bodies. Instead of politicians and senior bureaucrats, former sportsmen who know the game and understand its needs and pressures should be in decision making positions. The segment ends with a call to action from Aamir Khan who asks viewers to support the Mumkin Hai petition demanding that sporting bodies in India be run only by competent sports persons themselves. Viewers can support this campaign by giving a missed call to the number 18008334001
BEYOND ALL BOUNDARIES
The final segment emphasizes why games are vital for everyone - children as well as adults. Instances of initiatives from around the country where adults play games with as much gusto and excitement as children are shown to the audience. The star guest in this segment is badminton champion Saina Nehwal who talks about her journey reaching the pinnacle of world badminton. Saina showed early interest and passion for badminton and she was encouraged wholeheartedly by her father. Undeterred by the fact that she was the only girl playing among boys, she continued to pursue the game. Saina then honours the women runners of Mahadwadi village in Maharashtra who come on the show. These women, many of them grandmothers who wear only the traditional nine-yard saree, have won national-level awards for their feat on the tracks.
